Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy! I’m sorry that your nanny backed out and I wish you the best in finding someone who will love your baby as much as you do! Make sure that not only do they have the skills to watch your son, but also that they like/love children. It’s amazing to me how many women don’t really like kids and then they have them?! Also a nurturing and warm person because this person will be with your baby and they need to feel attachment and love and especially safe. So my thoughts are with you in finding that “perfect” person. Being a mom myself, leaving your child in the care of another person is very difficult but when you know you can trust the person who is taking care of your baby then it does make leaving them a little easier. Take care, Jan

Monti, you cannot spoil an infant. Research has shown that attending to your INFANT’s needs quickly results in children that are less whiny and needy. for the first 4 months or so the only way a baby can let you know their needs is by crying. If you respond they will develop the confidence that their needs will be met and they will not learn that they really have to make noise for someone to believe that they have a need. Once they are older and possess the skills to do some things for themselves (like roll over, make eye contact, understand what you are saying), you can let them know that you know they have a need but they need to wait a little bit. Once they are toddlers, they can really understand and start to learn to defer their needs. But they won’t if they don’t trust that their need won’t be met. My mother and mother in law insisted that I was “spoiling” my son by nursing on demand, but he was hungry and growing, and healthy (and the method was recommended by pediatricians). and once he got a little older he didn’t need to eat as often. Family members don’t always know the best way to raise caring, confident, competent, independent self sufficient human beings. I’d listen to your motherly instinct and child development research. Good luck.
PS my kid is 23 now and not whiny or needy!

Hi Monte, Was wondering how it was going and did you find someone to watch your sweet baby? They grow so fast, don’t they? You should post some new pics for us! Isn’t it fun being a mom?! It’s hard work but rewarding and you will find you laugh at the silly things they do! I just love kids myself and they make you feel younger. Mine are older. I have a daughter that is 19 and my son just turned 14 yesterday. Anyway I just wanted to check in with you and see how you were doing and that you found a good person to watch your beautiful son. Take care, Jan
