Monti Saves the WorldGo green by buying local!

Supermarkets leave the impression that every fruit and vegetable should be available year-round. However, in order to accommodate this demand, they stock produce that has been shipped cross-country if not from other continents.

Plus, most produce in the US is picked 4 to 7 days before being placed on supermarket shelves, it takes a lot longer to ship from other countries.

That’s why when it comes to produce- you should always buy local! It saves shipping energy and preserves both flavor and nutrients.

Go really GREEN with your fruits and veggies and check out a local Community Supported Agriculture operation (CSA). A CSA is a farm that allows local residents to buy shares of each season’s harvest. Produce is then either delivered or picked up each week.

This may sound like an investment, but studies show that membership costs for CSA organic produce amount to the same as purchasing nonorganic produce retail.
